For those who doubt the importance of first impressions, let me pose a question to you. How does one get to be interviewed for a feature article in a national magazine?
One way would be to win a Nobel prize or some other achievement deserving of national recognition. Since only a few people get to do that, the rest of us have to resort to alternatives. An alternative available to the rest of us is to make an excellent first impression. For example, did you know I landed this feature interview solely because I made a notable first impression? It’s true. In January I happened to be seated next to the editor of Research Magazine during a financial industry dinner. We hadn’t met before but had an opportunity to chat over dessert. Our single conversation started as a discussion about the Kosher meal choices available at hotels (dismal – the choices I mean) and progressed to one of my favorite topics, the power of image. A month later I was flying to Manhattan to be interviewed by his magazine.
So what did I say to the editor that he thought the financial industry needed to know? See for yourself. This is no fluff piece, pull up a comfy chair, grab your favorite beverage and enjoy it here.
